Ginseng Root – The King of Herbs
Panax Ginseng is one of the most famous and valued herbs used by mankind.
Ginseng is an energy tonic that regulates the human energy system. It has been
shown to be stimulating and regulatory to both the central nervous system and
to the endocrine system. It is the primary Qi tonic of Chinese tonic herbalism.
Ginseng may be used as a tonic for invigoration and fortification during times of
fatigue and debility; for declining work capacity and concentration, as well as
during convalescence.
Ginseng possesses multiple constituents, including ginsenosides, polysaccharides,
peptides, polyacetylenic alcohols, etc. Modern pharmacological experiments
have demonstrated that ginseng have numerous nutraceutical and
possibly pharmaceutical actions, including central nervous system effects,
neuroprotective effect, immunomodulation, etc.
Ginseng helps a person to adapt to all kinds of stress, and enhances endurance
and resilience under stressful conditions. It has thus been termed an "adaptogenic"
substance by scientific scholars. Ginseng contains many active ingredients,
but the most important are the triterpene saponins called ginsenosides. So
far, over thirty ginsenosides have been isolated from ginseng. Each of the
ginsenosides has its own distinct activities. Ginsenosides have been shown to
possess antioxidant, antiinflammatory and immunomodulating properties.
Recently, ginseng has been studied in a number of randomized controlled trials
investigating its effect mainly on physical and psychomotor performance,
cognitive function, immunomodulation, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular risk
factors, quality of life, as well as adverse effects. There is considerable more work
to be done on ginseng before it is fully understood. In some cases different
ginsenosides have conflicting actions; but overall, ginseng is considered to be
“balancing” and “regulating.” For example, it widely considered to be an immune
modulator which means that it helps to suppress overzealous immune responses
while strengthening appropriate responses. Ginseng has very potent immunological activity and has been found to promote strong resistance.
Many studies support the idea that ginseng helps regulate sugar balance and blood pressure. Most studies now indicate that ginseng protects
the cardiovascular system and central nervous system, especially the brain. Most of these actions are due to actions by one ginsenoside or a
group of ginsenosides acting in concert.
Ginseng may be steamed, causing it to turn a reddish-brown color. The steaming helps preserve the roots, but also serves a more important
function. Steaming converts some ginsenosides into others that did not exist prior to steaming and some of these new ginsenosides are of
great importance in terms of their actions when consumed. We use Chinese red ginseng to produce this product. The ginseng has been grown
on special plantations using green growing methods. This high quality ginseng is good for men and women alike. It is made from naturally
grown Changbai Mountain ginseng (the best ginseng in the world) and contains no artificial ingredients, preservatives and chemical residues.
Ginsenosides specifically improve adaptability and are believed to help build muscle and endurance. Therefore ginseng is very popular with
athletes. Ginseng is also used to tonify digestive and respiratory functions. It is by tradition a Qi tonic, which means that it fosters one’s ability
to extract energy from the food we eat and the air we breathe.
As a tonic dietary food supplement, ginseng is not used to prevent, mitigate, treat or cure any disease, but it may be used to fortify the body is
such a way as to increase one’s chance of maintaining radiant health. FITT™ is rich in ginsenosides, though it contains ALL active constituents
from ginseng.
The metabolism and absorption of ginsenosides have been studied intensively in recent years in order to explain the pharmacological actions
of ginsenosides and their contribution to the efficacy of ginseng supplements. Many investigations have been undertaken to discover the fate
of ginsenosides through the gastrointestinal tract using acids, enzymes, and human intestinal bacteria. It has become clear that a large part of
the intact ginsenosides is metabolized and transformed to ginsenosides with more enhancing biological effects compared with the intact
ginsenosides, and that the degradation products of ginsenosides identified in plasma and urine most likely are a result from the metabolism of
ginsenosides in the gastrointestinal tract. Dragon Herbs FITT™ ginseng granules are very small – in the low micron range. The total surface area
is vastly increased over powders produced by conventional extraction and the powder is much more easily metabolized by intestinal microbes.
Dragon Herbs FITT™ Ginseng Granules make a tea that has true ginseng flavor and true ginseng actions.
